Welcome to My Little Vintagey Corner

If you can’t already tell by the theme of the blog, or at least the couple of posts already up here, I have a thing for old stuff- specifically in this case old recipes and cookbooks and kitchen stuff. My mom didn’t have a lot of cookbooks, but a lot of them were (to me, at age ten) pretty old. I’d spend hours flipping through the stack that spent most of the time in the small cabinet above the stove- especially the oldest ones. There was something about the faded colors and the occasionally strange food combinations, that drew my attention.

Still, it wasn’t until years later that I realized I could indulge in that fascination without pulling my mom’s dusty books out of the boxes in the basement. Or that I could actually try the recipes inside. For some reason, despite my love of cooking, that had never occurred to me, since my family mostly stuck by family favorites or recipes discovered at church dinners.

So here we are. This is the second incarnation of Time Capsule Cooking- the first being put on hold with a medical diagnoses that kind of took the wind out of my sails for a while, as well as the realization that my phone’s camera just wasn’t going to cut it. For the next bit, expect some of those old posts to be transferred over to this site, interspersed between other, more current, entries. Anyway, hope you stick around. Cooking is always more fun with other people to experience the results, even if it’s just seeing the pictures and hearing the horror stories about salty oatmeal sticks.
